We are a very, very small breeder in Oregon. We are also a new breeder established in 2020. We are always learning, and striving to always improve our program- Have a suggestion, question, or comment? Let us hear it!
What Got Us Started?
We are dog show and dog sport people. One of the sports we do is called "barn hunt" It is a scent detection game for dogs, they have to find a rat in a secure tube in a certain amount of time. When starting this sport, I noticed some rats were very stressed and scared. I started to research this. I believe that proper breeding of any animal can have the biggest impact on their temperament, health, and conformation. So naturally this belief was transferred to rats. After talking with several breeders, I learned that rats temperament is almost entirely genetic. The problem was, they were using rats with poor breeding, and with that poor breeding came poor temperament. I had to do something about this. And here we are! I strive to breed bombproof, stable, healthy rats. Not only are these rats perfectly content and happy in the spacious tubes, they thrive in busy, chaotic homes as well. My rats, through selective breeding, run up happily to my dogs, unafraid. They are completely un-phased by my dogs loud barks. If I let them, they would walk right into my dogs mouth. If we don't spark interest to barn hunt homes, the rats are then placed in louder homes in which they thrive.
Why Rats?
Why rats? Yes, we are very familiar with this question. The answer is simple really, rats are AMAZING! They are the best first pets you can get your child, they're very interactive, intelligent, super sweet, and personable and they really love you. I love coming home and seeing my rats get so excited to see me. Rats are hilarious and very entertaining. Compared to other small domesticated furry pets, rats are easier to take care of.
This is why we love rats and choose to breed them over other animals. Rats are indeed the best! I promise you won't regret it for a second if you get them.
Why Us?

We want to ease that confusion, we are your guide to everything RAT! We love to build relationships with our buyers, we love the kind messages we receive, photo updates, and questions. If we ever are to sell a rat with health issues, or temperament issues, for one, our worst nightmare, and of course, we will always take full responsibility. We are responsible for the rats starting from the day they enter the world, until the day they leave. Our Rattery is dedicated to providing the public with unique pets. When you take home rats from us, you take a piece of our heart with you, we would NEVER let our animals end up in a shelter or in the wrong hands. While our waitlists can be long, it's for good reason, we won't sell to impulsive buyers and the waitlist is a great way to weed that out. We only want the best homes for the rats produced here.
Lastly, we breed for health and
temperament, not color. While pretty colors are nice, having a stable, sweet, and friendly companion outweighs superficial markings in our eyes. This is evident in our promise to you- that pricing will never change based on colors.
